CNN may have unceremoniously dumped Joy Behar much to many conservatives delight, but Al Gore’s Current TV has picked up the spitfire talk show lady for his network to air this fall. Behar will be filling in for other CNN castoff Eliot Spitzer next week though.
No one seemed more surprised when CNN pulled her talk show than Joy Behar (I know I was!) last December, but Current TV wisely picked up ‘The View‘ lady for her own show. On CNN, she was a welcome relief to me from Piers Morgan, who sometimes seems to take himself much too seriously, so I’m looking forward to seeing her again with her own show this fall. She’s that rare host who’s been doing it for so long and knows how to have fun and make the guests feel as comfortable as she obviously is. Plus she loves pissing off the Conservatives so they’ll be able to laser target her again since her show will be hitting just before the election.
Behar has already said that her new untitled show will include a round table of politicos, comedians and newsmakers. She’s mentioned doing a Twitter contest to let fans help her determine the name of the new show. I’m sure plenty of Right Wingers have already got some good ideas!
Current TV put out a release stating that the new show would be her “platform to discuss the latest headlines, pop culture events and anything else that comes to mind.” Behar cited “intelligent actors” likeJane Fonda and Ellen Barkin, “political people” like Barney Frank, and Jonathan Alter as examples of the “smart and funny” people she wants to have on the show. “I hope that people who watch will be entertained as well as informed,” she said, adding that she was looking forward to covering the election.
Even though Current TV has had plenty of growing pains including the Keith Olbermann mishap, but Behar is the third news show host they’ve hired since then including the CNN ousted Eliot Spitzer and California Lt. Gov. Gavin Newsom. I can easily bet that Behar will outlast them all as Spitzer’s ratings haven’t been too stellar either. Here show will be airing Monday through Thursday at 6 p.m., and repeating during prime time, but she’ll be in action sooner as she guest-anchors on ‘Viewpoint‘ while show host Eliot Spitzer is on vacation. Congrats to our favorite long-time ‘The View‘ co-host for showing how to keep popping up over and over much to the chagrin of others! Maybe you can teach Sherri Shepherd a few things about picking the right projects for your career including knowing that feeding the internet trolls is never wise.
